Embracing Sustainable Tourism in the Heart of the Florida Keys

In recent years, the concept of sustainable tourism has emerged as a beacon of hope in the realm of travel. It encourages both tourists and hosts to take into account their economic, social, and environmental impacts.

Going Green During Your Stay

From the moment our guests arrive, they become part of our sustainability journey.

Our commitment begins with a paperless check-in process and an online guidebook, reducing paper waste right from the start. Upon check-in, you will receive reusable wooden room keys, eliminating the need for plastic key cards.

We prioritize recycling and composting programs to divert waste from landfills. Through our in-house recycling program, we’ve recycled over 27,000 pounds of cardboard alone since 2023–about 76 pounds daily! We’ve also phased out plastic straws and water bottles from our premises, opting instead for biodegradable alternatives and water refill stations.

By taking these steps, we make it easy for guests to take part in our sustainability efforts.

Empowering Communities

Sustainable tourism isn't just about protecting the environment; it's also about uplifting communities. The Florida Keys, once a haven for local artists and musicians, have seen changes amidst rising prices and tourism. At Grassy Flats, we’re dedicated to revitalizing this artistic legacy. Our partnerships with local artists foster a creative environment that attracts artists back to the Keys, and allow our guests to be part of the experience.

Through our Artists in Residency program, our Conch House rooms provide local artists with a nurturing space to breathe life into their creations and revive creativity in the Keys.

At our sister property, The Lagoon on Grassy Key, local mural artists have transformed spaces into vibrant open-air galleries, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry.

Cultivating Responsible Travelers

We want to inspire and educate our guests to become responsible travelers, even beyond their stay at Grassy Flats. From providing digital resources to encouraging participation in recycling and composting initiatives, we make sustainable choices accessible and seamless, and show how even the smallest of steps can help.

At Grassy Flats, sustainability isn't just a choice; it's the only way forward—a journey towards a brighter future for generations to come.

So, ready to dive into travel that leaves a footprint of good? Come join us at Grassy Flats, where luxury meets sustainability, and where every visit helps make our world a better place—starting right here in the Florida Keys.
